It’s that time of the year again when I need to start cleaning out my closet. I didn’t take the time to do it this past spring, so I figure now is a good time to start. Will say though that the hardest part for me is figuring out what to get rid of seeing as my clothes are basically a version of a security blanket for me, don’t judge.
One thing I’ve noticed recently is that I have about 20+ pairs of jeans and I maybe wear 5-8 pairs of them. For some reason I continue to hold onto the overly distressed pair that has a broken zipper. I think it’s time to get rid of them…
Aside from the things that I plan to donate, I think I am also going to make a good amount of pieces available to all of you! Paige has sold some things before on Poshmark, so I may try the same. Before I do so, I thought I’d give you some of my thoughts on how to purge your closet.
- Get rid of the pieces you know will never come back in style. That purple fringe sweater that you wore once to an 80s party is probably not going to be worn ever again, so instead of having it take up unnecessary space in your closet, add it to the donation pile. Now if you’re not sure something will come back, for example boot cut jeans, don’t hesitate to keep them for another season or two. If by then they still aren’t back and taking up room, no need to keep them.
- Donate vs. consign. I am all about donating as much as I can, but if it’s a piece you invested in and is still in great condition, don’t hesitate to try to consign it. Even though you’ll be selling it for over 60% off retail price, that’s still a profit added to your wallet and space added to your closet.
- If you haven’t worn it in 3 months, you probably won’t wear it anytime soon. I am the worst when it comes to saving pieces I think I will wear again for that “special occasion” or for that “one time with that one person in that one place”. Be smarter than me and get rid of those pieces. One of my friends likes to turn her hangers backwards and when she gets time to purge and she has pieces still turned around then she gets rid of those pieces. I think I need to try this method.
I will keep you all posted when I start to list everything so you can get first dibs! Many pieces will be things you’ve seen worn on the blog!
